RECAP4NDC supports the development of a Detailed Action Plan for Aravalli Landscape Restoration and the National Afforestation and Monitoring System digital platform

Project Updates

As a prelude to the International Day for Biodiversity 2025, a Detailed Action Plan on Aravalli Landscape Restoration was unveiled by the Honorable Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shri. Bhupender Yadav. In the same spirit, on occasion of the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought 2025, the Honorable Minister launched the National Afforestation and Monitoring System (NAMS) – a transformative digital platform aimed at strengthening the monitoring, reporting, and evaluation of India’s afforestation and ecosystem restoration efforts. The development of the Action Plan and the NAMS platform are both supported by the RECAP4NDC project.

RECAP4NDC contributing to the Aravalli Green Wall Initiative

The Detailed Action Plan was developed as a corollary to the National Action Plan to Combat Desertification, thus contributing through restoration and forestry interventions to the Aravalli Green Wall Initiative of the Government. It states that restoration will follow an integrated landscape approach, focusing on improving forest cover, restoring grasslands, managing livestock, and enhancing water systems through traditional and scientific methods.

RECAP4NDC contributing to major afforestation schemes in India

The NAMS platform is designed as a transparent, data-driven, and integrated digital system to manage, monitor, and report major afforestation schemes including the Green India Mission, Nagar Van, Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats & Tangible Incomes (MISHTI), and other national and state-led restoration programmes. It will also facilitate timely and structured reporting to international environmental commitments such as the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The development and further support for smooth implementation of the NAMS platform is technically supported by the RECAP4NDC project.
