Project : Indo-German Support Project for Climate Action in India
GIZ India and TERI | Le Méridien, New Delhi
The 6th IKI India Community Exchange took place on 31 July 2025 in New Delhi. Co-hosted with TERI – The Energy and Resources Institute – the event brought together representatives from across the IKI India portfolio and the German Embassy to promote dialogue, facilitate learning, and strengthen collaboration within the IKI India community.
General Updates from IKI
Discussions revolved around implications of the IKI moving to the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) as the lead coordinating ministry. The discussion also spotlighted the updated IKI funding structure and the new IKI Large Grants instrument, which consolidates previous country-specific and thematic calls into a single competitive funding stream. Designed to support large-scale, multi-stakeholder projects with budgets between €5–20 million, the first global call under this new framework is to be launched at COP30 in Brazil.
Spotlight on IKI India Projects
A spotlight session featured WRI India’s IKI-funded project Aligning Climate Action with Long-Term Climate and Development Goals. The project contributes to strengthening the country’s Long-Term Low Emissions Development Strategy (LT-LEDS) by enhancing institutional capacity, facilitating stakeholder consultations, and developing open-access modelling tools such as the India Energy Policy Simulator, the Green Economy Model India, and the Madhya Pradesh State Energy Calculator. As India’s net-zero journey clearly involves multiple pathways and tradeoffs, the importance of such tools to combine technical analysis and policymaking was underlined.
COP30 Preparations
The discussion covered the planned participation of IKI India projects at COP30 to map out IKI India’s representation at the conference. The Pre-COP Briefing Note was also highlighted, which will, among other things, compile contributions from IKI-supported projects for COP30.
IKI India Networking Workshop
The meeting further covered planning for the annual IKI flagship event – the IKI India Networking Workshop (25–26 September 2025) – and consolidated inputs from the IKI India community on programme themes and priority discussion points. The workshop brings together project representatives and government counterparts from India and Germany to ensure knowledge exchange and synergies on climate and biodiversity-related policy developments and activities of IKI projects.
