Amid rising temperatures in Kerala, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has directed the Local Self-Governments department to develop a detailed project to mitigate heat impacts. The initiative focuses on adopting ‘cool roofs’ and implementing medium- and long-term structural and non-structural measures to reduce heat risks.
In a significant policy move, a meeting chaired by Chief Minister has decided to allocate State Disaster Mitigation Funds for heat-risk reduction projects. These projects will undergo appraisal and, upon approval, receive funding for execution through local self-governments. The comprehensive action plan aims to enhance community resilience against increasing temperatures.
