The Smart Logistics project was commissioned in November 2025 to support the decarbonisation of India’s freight and logistics sector, in partnership with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, through green strategies, digital solutions, capacity building and innovation in line with national logistics policies.

Project Updates

Commissioning of the Smart Logistics Project

The Smart Logistics (3 million EUR, 2025-2028), the successor to the Green Freight project (2020-2024), has been commissioned on November 01, 2025 to support the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.

The objective of the project is to develop green strategies and digital/technological solutions for the decarbonisation of freight transport and logistics thereby contributing to fulfilling India’s commitment of NetZero (by 2070). The project supports the implementation of the National Logistics Policy and the Prime Minister Gati Shakti National Master Plan.

The project has three Outputs:

  • Output 1 on knowledge management includes setting up of knowledge exchange platforms and strategy briefs; organizing of knowledge exchange visits and promoting women in Logistics.
  • Output 2 on capacity building includes development of training modules for Logistics 4.0, and implementing Logistics 4.0 related Training of Trainers, and
  • Output 3 on green solutions includes promoting startups for innovation, design and implementation of green solutions, and support development and implementation of innovative, green solutions in the freight and logistics sector.
