During the reporting period, Urban-Act advanced inclusive and climate-ready urban development by promoting GEDSI awareness in Panaji, strengthening institutional capacities through a Training of Trainers in New Delhi, consolidating regional learning in Bangkok, and supporting evidence-based urban greening and citizen engagement in Coimbatore.

Project Updates

1. Advancing GEDSI through Training and Awareness in Panaji

A series of Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) training and awareness programmes were conducted in Panaji with the objective of embedding inclusive practices across solid waste management systems and urban development processes. The engagements were designed to address gaps in understanding between citizens, frontline workers, and urban professionals, while highlighting the importance of equity and inclusion in service delivery and planning. https://www.urbansdgplatform.org/board/viewNewsDetail.msc?no=348

It brought together Urban-Act participants, regional and national governments, and supporting partners for a final showcase and synthesis of the learning outcomes from the Urban-Act Regional Training Programme. Officials from Coimbatore and Shimla participated in the workshop and shared their insights along with contribution for future modules.

4. Stakeholder Workshop on Developing Greening Guideline and Citizen Handbook for Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC)

Under the Urban-Act project, GIZ is supporting Urban Green Cover Planning in Coimbatore by developing scientifically grounded Urban Greening Guidelines and a Citizen Greening Handbook to guide CCMC and promote community-led initiatives. In this context, GIZ and CCMC organised a stakeholder workshop on 11 February 2026 to present key findings, discuss challenges, and gather stakeholder feedback to strengthen the proposed frameworks.
