Project Updates

LeadIT Outreach Workshop with PSEs in Bengaluru

The southern regional workshop on “Advancing Low-Carbon Pathways for a Net Zero India” was organised on 24th July 2026 at the BEL Academy of Excellence, Bengaluru, bringing together MoEFCC and representatives of Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs). The workshop provided an overview of the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT), focusing on technology pathways, technical assistance and practical interventions for industrial decarbonisation. Discussions between MoEFCC and PSEs highlighted opportunities and challenges in accelerating low-carbon industrial transition. BEL also presented its sustainability and decarbonisation journey, including renewable energy initiatives and its net-zero pathway. Site visits to BEL’s sustainability initiatives showcased its water management initiatives and provided practical insights into implementation approaches and lessons learned. Overall, the workshop strengthened knowledge sharing and collaboration among PSEs and stakeholders to advance industrial decarbonisation in India.

Webinar on Urban Forestry Climate Co-benefits Tool with PSEs

IFP and SCOPE organised a virtual webinar with PSEs on 17th June 2026 to present the online tool of the climate co-benefit (CCoB) methodology on urban forestry. The objective of the session was to onboard interested PSEs to use the web tool, clarify any doubts, and motivate them to use the methodology for assessing the climate co-benefits of urban forestry initiatives taken up by PSEs. The 90-minute session was a follow-up to an earlier workshop on the urban forestry climate co-benefits methodology, organised by the project for PSEs at the Indian Institute of Forest Management, where PSEs received hands-on practice with the CCoB methodology. About 15 representatives from PSEs participated in the session and expressed the utility of the tool for reporting climate co-benefits as part of their sustainability reports.

Policy Discussion with Indian Bureau of Mines on LC3 Clay Mapping

IFP facilitated a meeting between MoEFCC and the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) on 17th April 2026, chaired by Ms. Rajasree Ray, Economic Adviser, MoEFCC, to discuss mapping of suitable calcined clay resources for scaling up commercial production and use of Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3) in India. Dr. Rajesh Kumar Das, Deputy Controller of Mines, IBM, joined the discussion, along with representatives of MoEFCC, IFP and IIT Delhi. IIT Delhi highlighted LC3’s potential to reduce clinker content by up to 50% and CO₂ emissions by around 40%, while emphasizing the importance of reliable and systematic mapping of suitable clay and mineral resources to ensure long-term supply. The discussion identified key challenges, including limited resource data, gaps in mineral mapping, regulatory issues, and slow market adoption, and underscored the need for coordinated engagement among MoEFCC, Ministry of Mines, IBM, State Governments, IIT Delhi and the cement industry. It was recommended to initiate resource mapping in selected mineral-rich States to support the wider deployment of LC3. The meeting was convened following a Project Steering Committee observation to initiate policy discussions on detailed mapping of calcined clay resources to support the commercial scale-up of LC3 in India.

Stakeholder Workshop on Shaping the Indo-German Partnership on Green Industrialisation

On 26th May 2026, IFP supported and participated in the stakeholder workshop “Shaping the Indo-German Partnership on Green Industrialisation” in New Delhi. Convened in cooperation with NewClimate Institute, GIZ India, CEEW, TERI and Vasudha Foundation, the workshop brought together Indian stakeholders to identify opportunities for strengthening Indo-German cooperation on green steel, electrification of industrial heat and critical minerals.

Through expert inputs, roundtable discussions and World Café sessions, participants discussed opportunities for cooperation as well as potential risks and barriers, and explored possible ways forward. The exchange complemented stakeholder consultations and a similar workshop held with German stakeholders in April 2026. Recommendations and insights from these exchanges are intended to inform preparations for the 2026 Indo-German Intergovernmental Consultations and to help identify concrete areas for future bilateral cooperation on green industrialisation.

IKI India Portfolio Workshop with BMUKN

On 28th May 2026, IFP organised an IKI India Portfolio Workshop with Dr. Heike Henn, Director General at the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN), at the GIZ India office in New Delhi. The exchange formed part of her visit to India and provided an opportunity to discuss current priorities for Indo-German climate cooperation and India’s evolving climate policy architecture.

The workshop brought together representatives from BMUKN, GIZ, TERI and selected IKI-supported projects, and provided practical insights into cooperation with Indian partner ministries and institutions. Discussions covered climate and biodiversity policy implementation, renewable energy and electrification, urban and industrial transformation, circular economy, climate finance, and opportunities for strengthening Indo-German cooperation.

IFP also presented its role in facilitating coordination across the IKI India portfolio and supporting climate and biodiversity policy dialogue between India and Germany. Examples included cooperation with SCOPE and Public Sector Enterprises on industrial decarbonisation, work on wetlands and climate co-benefits, and cooperation with NITI Aayog on climate-compatible economic development pathways.

Preparations for the Indo-German Environment Forum

IFP advanced preparations for the upcoming Indo-German Environment Forum on 1st September 2026, supporting coordination between Indian and German partners and the broader IKI India portfolio. The project is contributing to, among other things, the development of the participant and stakeholder landscape, coordination with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), BMUKN and the German Embassy, and the identification of potential contributions from IKI projects to the Forum. The Forum is intended to provide a platform for Indo-German dialogue on shared environmental and climate priorities and to strengthen cooperation between relevant stakeholders from both countries.
