The 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections brought Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to power, ending nearly six decades of alternating governments led by the DMK and AIADMK. The new administration was accompanied by changes in administrative leadership, including the appointment of new Municipal Commissioners in Chennai, Coimbatore, and Madurai.

The transition required ITDP to re-establish engagement with the new political and administrative leadership, orient officials to ongoing sustainable mobility initiatives, and secure buy-in for priority programmes. The new administration has continued to advance key urban development initiatives, enabling ongoing collaboration on programmes such as the Chief Minister's Integrated Urban Transformation Mission (CMIUTM), Chennai Vision 2031, and city-level sustainable mobility projects.
