Indian Railways has introduced a unified pan-India licence for Container Train Operators, enabling access to the entire rail network through a single authorisation. By simplifying operations and encouraging greater movement of freight from road to rail, the reform is expected to improve logistics efficiency while supporting lower emissions, reduced congestion, and better air quality, particularly as most of the rail network is now electrified.
