Tamil Nadu’s 2025–26 budget allocates ₹170 crore to public transport funding multimodal terminals, converting 700 buses to CNG, deploying 1,125 e‑buses, and expanding minibuses across 2,000 routes. A sizeable ₹9,682 crore supports subsidies including free rides for women and students. Investments also back electric‑vehicle incentives and highway development. However, despite large allocations, funding for walking and cycling infrastructure remains conspicuously low, prompting calls for stronger emphasis on non‑motorised transport to achieve more equitable, healthier urban mobility.
