Indore has emerged as the frontrunner in Madhya Pradesh when it comes to green building infrastructure, recording the highest green building footprint in the state. According to the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), the city boasts a certified green building footprint of 15.3 million square feet, setting a benchmark for other cities in the region.
As many as 40 buildings in Indore are registered with IGBC, out of which 25 have already been certified. These buildings include a mix of government offices, commercial complexes, and residential projects. The trend reflects a growing awareness and commitment towards sustainable development and eco-friendly construction practices.
Experts believe that Indore’s rapid adoption of green building norms is a result of proactive efforts by both the municipal corporation and private developers. The IGBC stated that the city’s green infrastructure contributes significantly to reducing environmental impact by promoting energy efficiency, water conservation, and the use of sustainable materials.
The city's leadership in green building initiatives aligns with its consistent top performance in national cleanliness and sustainability rankings. With increasing awareness and continued support from stakeholders, Indore is expected to further expand its green footprint in the years to come, inspiring other cities across Madhya Pradesh to follow suit.
