Description

India’s 16th Finance Commission has recommended a major increase in funding for urban local bodies (ULBs) – ₹3,56,257 crore for 2026–31, more than double the previous commission’s allocation of ₹1.55 lakh crore – to strengthen urban infrastructure and improve city services. This reinforces the broader transition, as enhanced support can enable cities to invest in the infrastructure and institutional capacity needed to implement sustainable mobility at scale.
