Description

The Green India Mission, part of the national climate action framework, focuses on protecting, restoring, and enhancing forest cover to combat climate change. Launched in 2015–16, the initiative has released over $107.2 million to 17 states and one union territory to date, leading to eco-restoration over 155,130 hectares. States have made significant progress in afforestation, with notable achievements in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh. The mission engages local communities in sustainable forest management and contributes to ecological restoration efforts across forest and non-forest areas, strengthening India’s climate resilience.
