Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shri Arjun Munda unveiled the "Framework for Voluntary Carbon Market in Agriculture Sector" and the "Accreditation Protocol of Agroforestry Nurseries" in New Delhi. This initiative aims to empower small and medium farmers by enabling them to benefit from carbon credits, thereby promoting the adoption of eco-friendly agricultural practices. Minister Munda emphasized the agriculture sector's pivotal role in India's economy, noting that it employs 54.6% of the workforce and contributes 18.6% to the GDP. He called for collaborative efforts from central and state ministries, as well as related organizations, to advance the carbon market for the welfare of farmers. The Accreditation Protocol seeks to establish robust systems for the production and certification of quality planting materials, supporting the National Agroforestry Policy's objectives. Minister Munda highlighted the government's commitment to sustainable agricultural development and addressing global challenges like climate change.
