Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN II)

On-going
01 Jan 2018 to 31 Dec 2027

Description

The financing of biodiversity conservation is a key issue in the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Most countries lack reliable information on the actual costs needed to effectively implement their biodiversity strategies, as well as where the necessary funds can be sourced and how they can be used to implement these strategies. The BIOFIN initiative, active in 37 countries globally, addresses these knowledge gaps. It supports partner countries in developing and implementing financing solutions. BIOFIN Phase II, financed through the IKI Corona Response Package, focuses on four signature solutions: supporting countries in dealing with the impacts of COVID-19, implementing results-based and effective budgeting for biodiversity, reducing harmful subsidies and expenditures, and greening the financial sector.
